PDF/A file format is getting a growing adoption in Spain due to its main features: long term archiving and visual preservation. Some public administrations, starting probably with the Junta de Extremadura that on July 25th 2006 agreed on the use of the PDF/A format as one of the only two that should be used for electronic files generation and interchange. Moreover, general interest on this format is gaining momentum as we will see by the request of information and acceptance of seminars about this topic. The number of participants on PDF/A Competence Center webinar “Introducción al PDF/A” February 25th, 2010 was a good example of such interest. One focus of the PDF Association is on promoting information on the PDF/A format. Based in Germany, the PDF Association has members from around the world.

The PDF/A format is being recommended by a lot of different companies and sectors across Europe, starting with the EC. On “Implementing rules for the decision 2002/47/EC, ECSC, Euratom on Document Management and for the decision 2004/563/EC, Euratom on Electronic and digitised Documents” and referred to document digitalization and archiving, they clearly recommend the PDF/A format (III.188.8.131.52)
In Spain there are a lot of public administration and companies that, in a growing number, recommend, use or ask for PDF/A. As example, but not in a not an exhaustive mode done the number of possibilities we will emphasize the following: the Economy and Taxes Department on EHA/1490/2010 dated on May 28th 2010 asks for PDF/A as one of the allowable file formats for electronic documents acceptance; on the other hand, Justice Department on “Real Decreto 84/2007”, requests also PDF/A as one of the accepted file format for procedural writings attachments. Finally, is remarkable the “Boletín Oficial del Estado” that moved from a paper edition to an electronic version in PDF/A with long-preservation goal in mind.
PDF Association participates in a lot of different events and organize others in order to promote PDF/A. In Spain they have organized a webinar about PDF/A the past 25th February that, done the acceptance, will be followed by others.

PDF Camp is a technical and hands-on event where we will work in groups to find answers to your PDF questions. If you have been to one of our previous PDF Hackathons or PDF Camps, this event will be very similar. Bringing your own laptop will be necessary; the idea is that you bring up your production problems and project challenges. When registering for this event, please add your preferred subjects/input. Based on your requests, we will address different topics in 3 to 4 hands-on groups.
