Microsoft Office 2007 will support PDF/A – the ISO standard for long-term archiving in PDF format. Users of the Office suite will be able to create PDF/A files directly from the applications. In this way the files will remain readable for years to come, without requiring that obsolete versions of applications remain available. Don’t you see this decision by Microsoft as confirming that PDF/A will gain even further acceptance?

During a quiet moment one might contemplate the question: how will the technology that is currently lighting up our eyes be viewed in 10 or 20 years? Will today’s technology be as attractive in the future as a WordStar or Lotus 123 file on a floppy disk is today?

A must-attend event for all who have to consider the future security of electronic archiving for their documents. On April 10th-11th, 2008, the “Who’s Who” of PDF/A specialists from around the globe will meet in Amsterdam at the Hilton Hotel and share their knowledge through lectures and keynote speeches. In addition, the organizers have succeeded in attracting several large user organizations to the event, including the European Patent Office. Who else will present?

377 IT decision-makers indicate that PDF/A is nearly as well known as the TIFF and PDF archiving formats used up to now, and is even more recognized than JPEG. The fact that PDF/A is not yet widely used can be attributed to its publication as an ISO standard only two years ago.
