A must-attend event for all who have to consider the future security of electronic archiving for their documents. On April 10th-11th, 2008, the “Who’s Who” of PDF/A specialists from around the globe will meet in Amsterdam at the Hilton Hotel and share their knowledge through lectures and keynote speeches. In addition, the organizers have succeeded in attracting several large user organizations to the event, including the European Patent Office. Who else will present?

The topics covered included basic information, the role of PDF/A in scanning, validation of PDF/A files, migration, and integration in document management systems. 377 IT decision-makers indicate that PDF/A is nearly as well known as the TIFF and PDF archiving formats used up to now, and is even more recognized than JPEG. The fact that PDF/A is not yet widely used can be attributed to its publication as an ISO standard only two years ago. Nonetheless, at least half of all those expressing interest have specific plans for introducing PDF/A within the next year. Would you like to learn more about the alarming survey finding?
SRZ adds its expertise with libraries and archives to the PDF/A Competence Center. Projects implemented by SRZ include the digitization of extensive collections and catalogs and the introduction of content management systems (CMS) for presenting digital collections on the Internet. Dr. Wild will support the ongoing internationalization of the association and the propagation of the PDF/A standard for users and the DMS industry. The PDF/A Pavilion attracted enormous interest from visitors who used the opportunity to inform themselves about the uses and advantages of PDF/A. For the first time, the international association organized a joint member’s booth at Europe’s leading trade show for electronic information, content, and document management. Would you like to attend one of our events?
AIIM and the PDF/A Competence Center have announced their cooperation and will promote the worldwide use of the PDF/A standard. The primary emphasis in this regard is the worldwide use of the PDF/A standard (ISO 19005-1, Document management Electronic file format for longterm preservation Part 1: Use of PDF1.4 (PDF/A-1)). This is to be supported by the coordination of training courses, conferences, webinars, etc. Due to their different regional and cultural influences, both associations expect considerable synergies to result from the collaboration. More than 200 attendees learned about different aspects of long-term archiving with PDF/A in the specialized sessions presented by PDF/A experts. An important part of the program were sessions from Adobe with technical expertise from Adobe USA. An opening introductory session for all attendees and a summary of ECM strategies were presented by the recognized DMS/ECM consultants Bernhard Zoeller and Guido Schmitz.
