Julian Isaac

Julian is an experienced developer who has filled many roles in his career, including CTO, CSO, Project Architect, and Software Designer. For the last 6 years he has been working in the PDF and Office documents sphere, focusing on automated document transformation, editing, enhancement, and conversion. He has in-depth experience of Java (25 years and counting), and of the most popular SDKs including Aspose, PDFBox, and Apache POI.

He has attended the excellent “PDF Deep Dive” training course given by the PDF Association and has been instrumental in helping his employers with issues like kerning, support for non-Western fonts and writing directions, managing bookmarks and outlines, and generally answering the question “What would Word do?”.

He brings an innovative approach to his work and has introduced several new ideas which have gone on to become popular with customers and colleagues alike, namely “The NOP Module”, “The Web Services API Tester”, “The Licence Checker”, “The Module Loader”, “The Workflow Explorer”, “The (Java) Library Cleaner” et al.

Julian has a career-long interest in security and dealing with malicious code, and has delivered training and advised on improving the security posture of a company. He has 2 cats and is a keen DIYer.

Capabilities

Native English speaker with pretty good Dutch, learning German and studied French.

Availability

Beginning February 2024 I am available on either a permanent or freelance (preferred) basis. Happy to discuss hybrid or remote. Based in Germany and available for work in Luxembourg, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany…or other EU countries.
