The PDF Techniques Accessibility Summit will identify best-practices in tagging various cases in PDF documents. Questions to be addressed will likely include: the legal ways to tag a nested list, the correct way to caption multiple images, the appropriate way to organize content within headings.Refried PDF
My hospital emailed me a medical records release form as a PDF. They told me to print it, fill it, sign it, scan it and return it to the medical records department, in that order. In 2018? To get the form via email (i.e., electronically), yet be asked to print it? Did the last 20 years just… not mean anything! So I thought I’d be clever. I’d fill it first, THEN print it. Or better yet, never print it, but sign it anyhow, and return it along with a note making the case for improving their workflow. The story continues…Slides and video recordings of PDF Days Europe 2018

PDF/UA, like PDF itself, is internally complex, but used correctly, actually makes things easier.PDF Association expands its board of directors
Catherine Andersz of PDFTron Systems, Alaine Behler of iText Software and Peter Wyatt, ISO Project Leader for ISO 32000 enrich the newly elected board of the PDF Association.
July 1, 2011 (Berlin) The PDF/A Competence Center is pleased to announce that the International Standards Organization (ISO) has published the second part of the PDF/A standard in the form of ISO 19005-2. This provides compression, archiving and effect enhancements, as well as allowing users to add digital signatures.
Version 2 of the PDF/A Standard is more advanced than the original as it is based on a more recent version, PDF 1.7 (ISO 32000-1), rather than PDF 1.4. This offers a number of useful technical innovations: highly efficient JPEG2000 compression, support for transparency effects and layers, and embedding of OpenType fonts as well as provisions for digital signatures in accordance with the PAdES (PDF Advanced Electronic Signatures) standard. It also offers the possibility to embed PDF/A files in PDF/A-2, allowing archiving of sets of documents as individual documents in a single file.
PDF/A-1 remains in effect without limitation, and where PDF/A-1 features meet current requirements sufficiently well, there is no immediate reason to switch to PDF/A-2, explains Olaf Drümmer, chairman of the PDF/A Competence Center. Users who may benefit from new features should familiarize themselves with PDF/A-2 in the near future.
More information about PDF/A can be found on the website of the PDF/A Competence Center (www.pdfa.org). The group will offer free webinars in German and English in a couple of weeks to introduce PDF/A-2.
The PDF/A-2 standard can be purchased from the ISO online store:
The ISO 19005 standard (PDF/A) defines requirements for creating documents suitable for archiving based on the widely available PDF format. The standard specifies in detail what content is allowed and what is not. These and other specifications are intended to ensure long-term readability of the documents regardless of the application software and operating system in which they were originally produced. The advantages of PDF/A such as full-text search capabilities have led it to already replace TIFF as the preferred archiving format in numerous international governmental organizations as well as in private industries.
