Leveraging PDF in the Construction Industry

The construction industry is beginning to realize PDF’s potential by leveraging it as a tool for digital project communication and collaboration, including requests for information, submittals, bids, estimates, punchlists and more. “What truly makes PDF valuable is its ability to be redlined and edited while still maintaining the underlying content,” writes Don Jacob. He cites the example of construction management firm Berry and project architect Perkins+Will who “used PDF, rather than paper, to distribute most project documents, eliminating more than 42,000 pages of paper from the project ( Overlook Center in Waltham, Mass.).”

Leveraging PDF in the Construction Industry

The construction industry is beginning to realize PDF’s potential by leveraging it as a tool for digital project communication and collaboration, including requests for information, submittals, bids, estimates, punchlists and more.

The PDF Standard (ISO 32000) is an electronic representation of paper that can facilitate the sharing of 2D and 3D information from any computer.

“What truly makes PDF valuable, though, is its ability to be redlined and edited while still maintaining the underlying content,” writes Don Jacob.  He cites the example of construction management firm Berry and project architect Perkins+Will who “used PDF, rather than paper, to distribute most project documents, eliminating more than 42,000 pages of paper from the project ( Overlook Center in Waltham, Mass.).”
