I thought I would take a break from the PDF Library sample series to focus on the latest effort by our product management and engineering team. As the technical point person for the sales team, I work directly with customers during the entire evaluation process, from the initial download and first sample test, through the building of prototypes and proof of concept workflows. I’m happy to report that most of my interactions with Adobe PDF Library users are fantastic, but sometimes customers or prospects point out something that could have been done better. Perhaps it’s an oversight in the documentation, a sample doesn’t work the way that it is described, or the file folders in the installation package could have been organized a bit more clearly.

I’m happy to report that we have been listening! Product management and the engineering team have recently put the finishing touches on a repackaging of the Adobe PDF Library deliverable, taking into account many of the changes that you suggested.

With the latest v15.0.4PlusP2b release, we’ve reorganized the Adobe PDF Library deliverable:

  • Binaries and documentation sets are now organized into folders that will help developers locate resources and code pertinent to the development platform more quickly.
  • The sample set has been expanded and now contains additional samples demonstrating more features and APIs. The sample set is now organized into folders by function such as Creating Content and Extracting Information.
  • A new Getting Started guide is provided, and we updated both the documentation and the sample programs to make it easier to find information. Visit our online developer site – dev.datalogics.com – to see for yourself.
  • The entire set of samples can now be downloaded from Github. And, of course, as additional custom samples are created, these will be made available via GitHub as well.

I know what you’re thinking, it doesn’t sound quite as exciting as developing an entirely new feature set such as our recent PDF Optimizer enhancements. But, as a team of software developers, we understand that your time is valuable and that a product that is well organized and easy to navigate is often as important to developers as a new API set. Learn more about the latest updates in our Product Announcement.

Thanks again for all of your feedback, and let us know what you think of the new changes. For more information on the PDF Library, click here or contact us!
