Conference

Actuate Corporation will participate in this year’s Assistive Technology Industry Association (ATIA) Conference, which runs from January 29 to February 1, 2014 in Orlando, Florida. This learning and networking event will focus on the latest information, products, services and best practices in assistive technology for service professionals working with people with disabilities.

Shannon Kelly, Global Accessibility Solutions Subject Matter Expert at Actuate, will discuss the PDF/UA (Universal Accessibility) standard  – the international standard for developers creating accessible PDF output – and the value it brings to organizations’ comprehensive online presentment strategy.

Kelly will use her extensive knowledge gained from more than six years of accessibility industry experience to explain how PDF/UA is changing the level of accessibility of PDF documents, such that visually impaired customers can now thoroughly understand the communications they are receiving. If a person with vision loss or blindness is equipped with the appropriate assistive technology software, an organization’s conformance with PDF/UA ensures that important documents and statements are always accessible to these individuals with disabilities. Kelly’s session will also identify drivers for offering accessible PDFs and explain new methods for incorporating accessible content into an organization’s preexisting workflow.
