ISO TC 171 SC 2 – Fall 2019

It’s time for PDF Week at ISO TC 171 SC 2! The PDF committees will meet in Washington DC to advance PDF, PDF/A, PDF/UA and more.

ISO meeting


ISO logoIn December, 2019 the ISO committees for PDF and related standards will gather in Washington DC for four days of meetings.

The following committees will meet:

WG7 – ISO 21757 (PDF JavaScript for 3D)

Work: Review the CD ballot.

ISO 32000 / PDF (WG 8)

Work: Review the final draft of the “dated revision” of ISO 32000-2 before it goes to DIS. The Committee will also discuss new features for future versions of PDF. Other discussions will include a white paper on introducing new features to PDF, a discussion regarding extending PDF 2.0’s Annex L to consider PDF 1.7 elements, and more.

WG8 – ISO 23504 (PDF/R)

Work: Review comments against the draft.

WG9 – ISO 14289

Work: Continued development of PDF/UA-2, leveraging ISO 32000-2’s dated revision.

WG 10 – Preservation file format

Work: Review current work on this project.

WG 11 – EDMS

Work: Review current work on this project.

WG 12 – ISO 16684 (XMP)

Work: Review current work on the XMP specification, recently transferred to TC 171 SC 2 from TC 130.

Not meeting

WG5, the committee that manages ISO 19005 (PDF/A), will not meet in December.

Attending the meetings

The meetings will be held at the National Archives building “Archives 1” in downtown Washington, DC. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Teleconference access will also be provided, but is likewise also only available to registered attendees.

PDF Association logoPDF Association members who wish to attend should contact the PDF Association’s Liaison Officer, Dietrich von Seggern, directly for accreditation via the PDF Association’s liaison with ISO TC 171 SC 2. PDF Association members are entitled to review Committee documents prior to the meetings.

3D PDF ConsortiumFor those who participate via their respective country’s TC 171 member body organization, you must be accredited and entered into ISO’s Global Database prior to attending. Contact Betsy Fanning at the 3D PDF Consortium (secretariat for ISO TC 171 SC 2) for more information.
