ISO meeting

ISO LogoThis coming November the ISO committees for PDF, PDF/A, PDF/UA, PDF/E and XFDF will once again gather in-person in Basel, Switzerland for a full week of meetings.

Key subjects on the table include:

ISO 32000 (WG 8)

This committee will review comments against the 2nd DIS (Draft International Standard) of PDF 2.0. This is, hopefully, the 2nd to last in-person meeting before the standard is complete!

ISO 14289 (WG 9)

The PDF/UA committee will continue development of PDF/UA-2 along the lines established in two previous in-person meetings. Highlights of PDF/UA-2:

  • It’s based on ISO 32000-2, and thus leverages the PDF 2.0 tagset, namespaces, structured destinations and other advanced accessibility features in PDF 2.0.
  • A tight focus on PDF technology, reducing content-level requirements to improve integration with accessibility standards that regulate content such as WCAG 2.0.

ISO 19005 (WG 5)

The PDF/A committee will discuss a new Part for ISO 19005 to use PDF 2.0. Various other possibilities will be considered.

ISO 24517 (PDF/E)

Essentially complete, this standard awaits ratification of PDF 2.0. The committee will also discuss the relationship with PDF/A.
