The PDF Techniques Accessibility Summit will identify best-practices in tagging various cases in PDF documents. Questions to be addressed will likely include: the legal ways to tag a nested list, the correct way to caption multiple images, the appropriate way to organize content within headings.

My hospital emailed me a medical records release form as a PDF. They told me to print it, fill it, sign it, scan it and return it to the medical records department, in that order. In 2018? To get the form via email (i.e., electronically), yet be asked to print it? Did the last 20 years just… not mean anything! So I thought I’d be clever. I’d fill it first, THEN print it. Or better yet, never print it, but sign it anyhow, and return it along with a note making the case for improving their workflow. The story continues…

Common PDF Interoperability Concerns

Vel GenovVel Genov, Senior Product Manager at Datalogics, will be hosting a presentation titled “Common PDF Interoperability Concerns” at the PDF Days Europe 2018.

Presenter: Vel Genov is the Senior Product Manager for the Adobe PDF Library product line at Datalogics. Vel started with Datalogics in 2010. During his tenure, Vel has developed extensive knowledge of the product line, first through support, then as a development engineer and eventually moving into the product management role. Since becoming PM, Vel has developed the PDF OPTIMIZER solution, redesigned the SDK packaging, added an online library of samples, written white papers, and blogs on PDF issues and presented on PDF topics at various trade shows and events.

Session Description: PDF is a flexible and extensible document description language, full of features and capabilities. Different PDF viewers and processors have different strengths and weaknesses. While PDF is foremost concerned with enabling interoperability, users interact with PDF through its various implementations. This session will cover some common trouble areas for PDF processors that lead to user frustration. Attendees will also learn which trouble areas can be addressed in existing PDF documents, and some techniques for doing so.
