PDFBoxThe Apache Software Foundation's PDFBox v2.0, a Java SDK for creating and processing PDF files, is now available. The updated software includes over 1100 solved issues and numerous improvements and enhancements.

Changes in the 2.0 release span a broad range of PDF functionality from rendering to Unicode. Several areas, such as forms and digital signature and encryption support, were overhauled or extended. A substantially enhanced parser now includes a self-healing mechanism for malformed PDF files.

From a software packaging point of view the new package structure allows smaller runtime environments and reduced memory requirements. PDFBox 2.0 requires Java 6.

The Apache Foundation's press-release noted that in February 2015, "...[the PDFBox] project became the first Open Source Partner Organization of the PDF Association."
