The PDF Techniques Accessibility Summit will identify best-practices in tagging various cases in PDF documents. Questions to be addressed will likely include: the legal ways to tag a nested list, the correct way to caption multiple images, the appropriate way to organize content within headings.Refried PDF
My hospital emailed me a medical records release form as a PDF. They told me to print it, fill it, sign it, scan it and return it to the medical records department, in that order. In 2018? To get the form via email (i.e., electronically), yet be asked to print it? Did the last 20 years just… not mean anything! So I thought I’d be clever. I’d fill it first, THEN print it. Or better yet, never print it, but sign it anyhow, and return it along with a note making the case for improving their workflow. The story continues…Slides and video recordings of PDF Days Europe 2018

PDF/UA, like PDF itself, is internally complex, but used correctly, actually makes things easier.PDF Association expands its board of directors

Berlin. The PDF Association celebrated a particularly special birthday as part of its most recent Technical Conference: it has now been 20 years since the PDF format was first published. During the event, participants gained a fully-grounded insight into all the different PDF standards from PDF/A and PDF/UA to PDF/X, PDF/E, PDF/VT and of course PDF itself. The next Technical Conference will take place on the 14th and 15th of August 2013, in Seattle, followed by PDF/A Users Day on the 16th of August 2013.
A recent survey conducted by the market research institute Innofact, on behalf of Adobe Systems, found that PDF is the worlds most widely-used file format. PDF was ratified as an ISO standard (ISO 32000) in 2008; for some time now, its ongoing development has been not just the work of Adobe, but the responsibility of a number of other companies as well. Further ISO PDF standards have started to make themselves known, including PDF/A for long-term archiving, PDF/E for exchanging engineering data (including PDF-based 3D models), PDF/UA for universal accessibility, PDF/VT for high-volume variable and transactional printing, and PDF/X for pre-press work. All of these formats were discussed in depth at the Technical Conference, with attractive keynote presentations on the agenda at the start of each day of the conference.
On day one, Leonard Rosenthol of Adobe Systems talked about the future of PDF, discussing his experiences in PDF standardisation both with Adobe and with a number of international standardisation bodies. Mozillas Marco Zehe opened the second day with his keynote speech Document accessibility for software developers, focusing on the universally accessible PDF/UA format, which continues to grow in popularity. At the end of the first evening, participants celebrated the PDF formats 20th birthday together. Olaf Drümmer, chairman of the PDF Association, and vice-chairman Duff Johnson entertained guests with historical anecdotes from the past two decades.
We received some very positive feedback from this years event, said Olaf Drümmer. Were now very excited for the next Technical Conference in August, which will be the first to be held in the USA. Wed love it if this events participants told their partners or colleagues in North America about the upcoming conference there.
