The long-term archiving format PDF/A has become established in Switzerland and has been used successfully in numerous projects. Founded in early 2011, the Swiss chapter of the PDF Association has six member companies.

Dr. Hans Bärfuss was the initiator, founding member and since the founding of ADDS to the General Assembly in 2010 as Vice President. PDF Tools AG is also the Swiss representative in the ISO committee for PDF/A and PDF 1.7.

Communication between administration and citizens with PDF/A
The Swiss Federal Council in Regulation Implementing the Federal Law on Administrative Procedure (VwVG), the “Regulation on electronic communication within the framework of administrative proceedings” made the decision for the ISO standard PDF/A format. The Regulation lays down the modalities of electronic transactions between a party and a federal agency under the decree of disposition or in appeal proceedings. The regulation took effect on 1 January 2008. This Ordinance of 2008 was to introduce the new pan-Swiss civil and penal law also revised and adapted and how the regulation on the electronic communication within the framework of civil and criminal cases as well as debt collection and bankruptcy procedures the first January 2011 brought into force.
PDF/A in process and procedures for civil, criminal or debt collection and bankruptcy law
With power in the new federal civil procedure and criminal procedure will be effective 1 January 2011 is also the Regulation on electronic communication within the framework of civil and criminal cases as well as debt collection and bankruptcy of 18 june 2010 on 1st january 2011 entered into force.
