Challenges of PDF/UA for Very Long Documents

Tagged PDF presents a number of challenges when creating lengthy documents.

“The main problem is, that tagged PDF essentially defines a DOM, and as that DOM is a tree structure and tends to be parsed and processed in one go, it might become too large of a tree structure to be processed efficiently,” say experts.

Currently, PDF/UA experts are considering those issues and whether to implement changes in the upcoming versions of PDF/UA standards, or to leave that aspect to tool developers.
