I am trying to use the PDF properties features to improve search rankings for PDFs.  We cannot rewrrite the content on the front end, so we are limited to working with properties, titles, etc. on the properties tab of PDF.  I see two categories that I do not understand–"Search index"  (under advanced) and "tagged PDF" under description. Any idea what these fields mean? I want to manipulate the properties, descriptions etc. to make PDF search results more accurate.

If you can't edit the file beyond the contents of the properties tab then "Index" and "Tags" have nothing to offer you.

Index has to do with a proprietary search system that's part of Acrobat. Dealing with tags would require editing the file.

The best you can do is improve the quality of the Title, Author, Subject, etc. under to presumption that text-search engines can find that content easily enough, even if the PDF is (for example) all scanned images without text.

I hope that helps.

Duff.
