UK Chapter of the PDF/A Competence Centre Launches

Launch of the PDF/A Competence Center UK is marked with the first in a series of educational seminars.

15th October 2010, London – The UK Chapter of the PDF/A Competence Centre (PDFACC) has been launched, as part of the global expansion of the organisation, to meet the needs of customers and companies that offer PDF/A products and services in the UK. To mark its launch the Chapter will be hosting a half day seminar in London on Friday 19 November with an aim to provide a comprehensive introduction to the PDF/A (ISO 19005) standard for long-term archiving of electronic documents.

“This seminar is our first event of many, helping to increase visibility of the PDF/A standard in the region. There are several companies that provide PDF/A solutions in the UK, but it is our hope that major organisations and government offices will get involved in the UK Chapter to further the use of the format as a standard for long-term archiving and retrieval,” said Stewart Rogers, Chairman of the UK Chapter of the PDF/A Competence Centre and General Manager for European Operations at Crawford Technologies Inc.

PDF/A experts from across Europe will speak at the event including Gary Hodkinson, Managing Director of LuraTech Ltd who will take a look at the benefits of PDF/A for scanned documents. Martin Bailey, CTO of Global Graphics Software Ltd will reveal all about PDF/A requirements, conformance levels and timelines and Thomas Zellmann, MD of PDF/A Competence Centre will be illustrating how the standard is already being implemented in both Europe and the USA and its future outlook.

PDF/A has been an ISO standard since 2005, governing the use of PDF format for the long-term archiving of electronic documents. The PDF/A standard is the result of more than three years of committee work by business representatives and members of different associations from around the world.

The PDF/A Competence Centre was founded as an international association to address the high demand for information about PDF/A and to promote the exchange of ideas and experience. The combined knowledge of numerous PDF/A experts is, therefore, available to interested parties in one package. The association regularly conducts events and seminars and contributes to further standardisation.
